It's either a bug or the skill description is ambiguous in a way that screws with the player. For regular trading, the price tracking doesn't get saved so that could be an issue. I think the profit value for a stack depends on the price of the most recently purchased item in that stack. #1.

When you level up the learning rate drops in all skills. This forces you to become 'specialist' and simultaneously drops your max level in each skill. You need to decide what type of character you want to be and really prepare for that in the early game. You need to start the game with a bow, that's for sure.
