If you wanted problem free and ease of use / servicing you should have gone for the 1.8TDCI. But same with any car, keep up with the servicing etc. I am assuming it is the MK2 focus? If it is the hatchback, check for water ingress into the boot. It can come in through the rear lights, 3rd brake light/spoiler. The main issues will be rust.
